Audience Demographics
Understand your audience with age, gender, and location breakdowns for Facebook and Instagram.
Audience Demographics
The Demographics section within the Facebook and Instagram Profile tabs shows you who your audience is — broken down by age, gender, and location. Understanding your audience helps you create content that resonates and target your efforts more effectively.
Where to Find Demographics
Demographics data is located within the Profile sub-tab of each platform:
- Analytics > Facebook > Profile — scroll down to the Demographics section.
- Analytics > Instagram > Profile — scroll down to the Demographics section.
Age & Gender Breakdown
A set of horizontal bar charts shows your audience distributed across age groups:
- 13–17, 18–24, 25–34, 35–44, 45–54, 55–64, 65+
Each age group is further split by gender, so you can see, for example, that your largest audience segment is women aged 25–34 or men aged 18–24. This helps you tailor your content tone, topics, and visual style to match your actual audience.
Top Locations
The location breakdown shows:
- Top Cities — The cities where your followers are concentrated.
- Top Countries — Your audience’s geographic distribution by country.
Location data is valuable for timing your posts (matching your audience’s time zones), localizing content, and understanding regional interest in your brand.
How to Use Demographics
- Content planning — If your audience skews younger, lean into trends and formats popular with that demographic. If it’s more professional, prioritize informative and polished content.
- Scheduling — Post when your primary audience’s time zone is most active. Cross-reference with the Optimal Times heatmap.
- Ad targeting — Use demographic insights to refine your Meta Ads audience parameters in the Ads Manager.
- Growth strategy — Identify underrepresented demographics you’d like to reach and adjust your content accordingly.
