Optimal Posting Times
Use the engagement heatmap to discover the best days and times to publish your content.
Optimal Posting Times
The Optimal Posting Times view helps you figure out when your audience is most active and engaged. Instead of guessing when to post, you can use real data from your publishing history.
The Heatmap
The view displays a day-of-week by hour-of-day heatmap — a grid where:
- Rows represent days of the week (Monday through Sunday).
- Columns represent hours of the day (12 AM through 11 PM).
- Cell color indicates engagement level — darker cells mean higher engagement during that time slot, while lighter cells indicate lower activity.
At a glance, you can spot your hottest time slots and the periods to avoid.
How It’s Calculated
The heatmap is built from the engagement data of your published posts. SoSocial looks at when each post was published and how much engagement it received (likes, comments, shares), then maps that data onto the day/hour grid. The more posts you’ve published across different times, the more accurate the heatmap becomes.
Using Optimal Times for Scheduling
When you schedule a post using the Schedule Modal, SoSocial offers AI-suggested posting times. These suggestions are informed by your optimal times data, so the AI recommends slots where your content is most likely to perform well.
You can also use the heatmap manually — just look for the darkest cells and aim to schedule your posts during those windows.
Tips
- Publish consistently across different days and times to build a more complete picture.
- Revisit the heatmap monthly, as audience behavior can shift with seasons, holidays, or changes in your content strategy.
- Combine optimal times data with the AI Insights tab for a more complete scheduling strategy.
