Ad Sets

Define targeting, budgets, and schedules for your ads using Ad Sets within a campaign.

Ad Sets

Ad Sets sit between campaigns and individual ads in the Meta advertising hierarchy. They control who sees your ads, how much you spend, and when your ads run. Each campaign can have multiple ad sets, allowing you to test different audiences or budgets within the same campaign objective.

Creating an Ad Set

  1. Open an existing campaign on the Ads page.
  2. Click Create Ad Set within the campaign.
  3. Configure the following settings:

Audience Targeting

Define who should see your ads:

  • Location — Target by country, region, city, or radius around a point.
  • Age range — Set minimum and maximum age for your audience.
  • Gender — Target all genders or a specific one.
  • Interests & behaviors — Narrow your audience based on interests, hobbies, purchase behavior, and more.

Use your Demographics data from the Analytics page to inform targeting decisions.

Budget

Set the budget at the ad set level:

  • Daily budget — A consistent amount spent each day.
  • Lifetime budget — A fixed total amount spread across the ad set’s schedule.

The ad set budget works within the overall campaign budget.

Schedule

  • Start date — When the ad set begins delivering ads.
  • End date — When delivery stops (optional for ongoing campaigns).

How Ad Sets Work

Ad Sets group related ads and control delivery. Meta’s algorithm distributes the ad set’s budget across its ads, showing the best-performing creative more often. Having multiple ads within an ad set lets the system optimize automatically.

Tips

  • Start with a broader audience and narrow based on performance data.
  • Run multiple ad sets with different targeting to compare audience segments.
  • Monitor each ad set’s performance in the Insights panel and pause underperformers.
