Connection Issues

Troubleshoot disconnected social platforms and resolve OAuth problems.

Connection Issues

If a social platform shows as disconnected or you’re having trouble publishing, the issue is usually related to OAuth tokens or platform permissions. Here’s how to diagnose and fix connection problems.

General Fix: Reconnect the Platform

For most connection issues, disconnecting and reconnecting resolves the problem:

  1. Go to Settings from the sidebar.
  2. Find the disconnected platform.
  3. Click Disconnect to remove the current connection.
  4. Click Connect to start a fresh OAuth flow.
  5. Grant all requested permissions when prompted.
  6. Verify the connection shows as active.

Platform-Specific Issues

Facebook

  • Token expiration — Facebook Page tokens can expire after approximately 60 days of inactivity. Reconnect to get a fresh token.
  • Page permissions — Ensure you selected the correct Facebook Page during the OAuth flow and granted publishing permissions.
  • Page role — You must be a Page admin or editor to publish through the API.

Instagram

  • Business account required — SoSocial only works with Instagram Business or Creator accounts. Personal accounts are not supported by Instagram’s API.
  • Facebook Page link — Your Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook Page. This connection is made in Instagram’s settings or through Meta Business Suite.
  • Wrong account type — If you see publishing errors, verify in Meta Business Suite that your Instagram account is properly connected as a Business account.

X (Twitter)

  • App permissions changed — If X/Twitter updates their API policies or your app permissions change, you may need to reconnect.
  • Scope issues — Ensure all requested OAuth scopes (read, write, direct messages) are granted during authorization.

TikTok

  • Scope not granted — TikTok requires specific scopes for video publishing. If you skipped or denied any permission during OAuth, reconnect and grant all scopes.
  • Account eligibility — Some TikTok API features require a business or creator account.

Prevention Tips

  • Reconnect proactively — If you notice a platform hasn’t been used in a while, reconnect to refresh the token before it causes a publishing failure.
  • Grant all permissions — Always accept all permission requests during the OAuth flow. Denying permissions can prevent SoSocial from publishing or reading engagement data.
  • Check Settings regularly — A quick glance at your platform connection statuses in Settings can catch issues before they affect scheduled posts.
