Creating Reels

Create and publish short-form vertical video Reels for Facebook and Instagram.

Creating Reels

Reels are short-form vertical videos that appear in dedicated feeds on Facebook and Instagram. They’re one of the highest-reach content formats available and a powerful way to grow your audience.

Switching to Reel Mode

In the composer, click the Reel tab in the Content Type Tabs. This switches the editor and preview to Reel mode, optimized for the 9:16 vertical video format.

Adding Reel Content

  1. Upload your video — Vertical video (9:16) is required for the best experience. SoSocial accepts MP4 and MOV formats.
  2. Write a caption — Add a description for your Reel. This appears below the video on the platform and is searchable, so include relevant keywords and hashtags.
  3. Select platforms — Reels are available on Facebook and Instagram. Ensure at least one is selected.

Preview

The live preview shows your Reel in the native layout:

  • A tall 9:16 portrait frame fills the preview area.
  • Your caption appears at the bottom-left of the frame.
  • Action icons (like, comment, share) are displayed on the right side.

This mirrors the way viewers experience Reels on their phones, so you can verify everything looks right before publishing.

Tips for Better Reels

  • Hook viewers in the first 2 seconds — Start with movement, a question, or a surprising visual.
  • Keep it short — While platforms allow longer Reels, 15–30 seconds tends to get the most engagement.
  • Add captions or text overlays — Many people watch Reels with the sound off.
  • Use trending audio or formats — This can boost discoverability through the algorithm.
  • Include a clear CTA — Tell viewers what to do: follow, comment, visit your link, or share.

Like all content in SoSocial, Reels can be scheduled, saved as drafts, or published immediately from the action bar.
