Creating Stories
Publish vertical Stories to Facebook and Instagram directly from the SoSocial composer.
Creating Stories
Stories are short-lived, full-screen vertical content on Facebook and Instagram. They’re a great way to share behind-the-scenes moments, promotions, or time-sensitive updates with your audience.
Switching to Story Mode
In the composer, you’ll see Content Type Tabs near the top of the editor area. Click the Story tab to switch from a standard post to Story mode. This adjusts the composer and preview to the 9:16 vertical format used by Stories.
Adding Story Content
Once in Story mode:
- Upload your media — Vertical images and videos (9:16 aspect ratio) work best. SoSocial will handle cropping, but starting with portrait-oriented content gives you the best result.
- Write a caption — Add text that will appear overlaid on your Story. Keep it short and punchy since Stories are consumed quickly.
- Select platforms — Stories are supported on Facebook and Instagram. Make sure at least one of these platforms is selected.
Preview
The live preview switches to a portrait frame that mimics the native Story experience:
- Your account name and avatar appear at the top.
- The caption and a reply bar appear at the bottom.
- Media fills the full vertical frame, just like it would on a phone screen.
This helps you see exactly how your Story will look before publishing.
Tips for Great Stories
- Use vertical media — 9:16 is the native format. Landscape images will have large blank areas.
- Keep text minimal — Stories are visual-first. Let your image or video do the heavy lifting.
- Be timely — Stories disappear after 24 hours, making them perfect for flash sales, event reminders, or daily updates.
- Post consistently — Regular Stories keep your brand visible at the top of followers’ feeds.
You can schedule Stories just like regular posts using the Schedule button in the action bar.
