First Comment

Automatically publish a first comment on your Facebook and Instagram posts for hashtags or additional context.

First Comment

The First Comment feature lets you schedule a comment that gets posted automatically right after your main post goes live. This is a popular strategy on Facebook and Instagram for keeping your caption clean while still including hashtags or extra context.

Why Use a First Comment?

On Instagram especially, many creators and brands move their hashtags out of the main caption and into the first comment. This approach:

  • Keeps your caption clean — Your message stays focused without a block of hashtags at the bottom.
  • Maintains discoverability — Hashtags in the first comment still help your post appear in search results and hashtag feeds.
  • Looks more professional — A clean caption with a separate hashtag comment feels polished and intentional.

You can also use the first comment for things like crediting collaborators, adding a call-to-action link, or including supplementary information.

How to Set It Up

  1. Open the Compose page and create your post as usual.
  2. Look for the First Comment toggle in the composer, below the main caption area.
  3. Toggle it on to reveal the first comment text field.
  4. Type the content you want as your first comment — hashtags, a link, a question, or anything else.

When you publish or schedule the post, SoSocial will automatically post the first comment on your behalf immediately after the main content is published.

Supported Platforms

First Comment is available for Facebook and Instagram posts. It works with both immediate publishing and scheduled posts.

Tips

  • Use the Suggest Hashtags AI tool to generate hashtags, then move them into the first comment field.
  • Keep your first comment relevant — spammy-looking comments can reduce engagement.
  • Test both approaches (hashtags in caption vs. first comment) to see what works best for your audience.
