Link Previews

See how links in your posts will appear on social platforms with automatic Open Graph previews.

Link Previews

When you include a URL in your caption, SoSocial automatically fetches the link’s Open Graph metadata and displays a preview card. This lets you see how the link will appear when shared on social platforms — before you publish.

How It Works

As soon as SoSocial detects a URL in your caption, it fetches the page’s Open Graph tags in the background. These are standardized HTML meta tags that websites use to control how their content appears when shared on social media.

The Link Preview Card appears below your content area and typically includes:

  • Title — The page’s headline.
  • Description — A short summary of the page content.
  • Image — The featured image set by the website.

Why It Matters

Link previews have a big impact on click-through rates. A well-formatted preview with an eye-catching image and clear title is much more likely to get clicks than a bare URL.

By previewing the card in SoSocial before publishing, you can:

  • Verify the image looks right — Some websites have outdated or missing Open Graph images.
  • Check the title and description — Make sure they complement your caption rather than repeating it.
  • Catch broken links — If no preview appears, the URL may be incorrect or the site may not have Open Graph tags configured.

Tips

  • If the preview doesn’t look right, the issue is usually with the website’s Open Graph tags, not SoSocial. You may need to update the tags on your own site or choose a different link.
  • Some platforms (like X/Twitter) use their own card format. The preview in SoSocial gives you a general idea, but the exact appearance may vary slightly per platform.
  • For the best results, make sure your own website has proper Open Graph tags set up — including og:title, og:description, and og:image.
