Syncing Messages

How to fetch the latest DMs, comments, and mentions from your connected social platforms.

Syncing Messages

SoSocial fetches messages from your connected social platforms on demand. To get the latest conversations, click the Sync button at the top of the Inbox page.

What Gets Synced

When you trigger a sync, SoSocial reaches out to each connected platform’s API and pulls in:

  • Direct Messages — Private conversations sent to your pages or accounts.
  • Comments — Replies on your published posts across all platforms.
  • Mentions — Posts or comments where your account is tagged or mentioned.

How It Works

The sync uses the OAuth credentials from your connected accounts (configured in Settings > Connections). SoSocial requests the latest interactions from each platform API, then stores them locally in your database for fast access.

Each sync fetches new messages since your last sync, so it’s quick and efficient. There’s no risk of duplicating messages — SoSocial tracks what’s already been imported.

Local Storage

All synced messages are stored in your local database. This means:

  • Fast browsing — Scrolling through conversations doesn’t require repeated API calls.
  • Offline access — Previously synced messages remain available even if a platform API is temporarily unreachable.
  • Full history — Your conversation history builds up over time as you sync regularly.

Tips

  • Sync frequently to stay on top of incoming messages.
  • If you’ve just connected a new platform, run a sync to pull in recent conversations.
  • The unread badge in the sidebar updates after each sync, so you’ll see new message counts right away.
